How to Show Month Name Using Excel Formula?

Working with excel, especially in the accounting & finance industry, we interact with dates daily. We say that every workbook requires dates for purposes of documentation.

If you are trying to get the month name from a number in excel, one of the best excel formulas to use is:

=TEXT(A1*29,”mmm”)

Let’s say you had the number “4” in cell A1. The result should be “Apr”. For any number from 1-12, it should be able to accurately show the month name that the number correlates too.

If you want the full month name instead, just add an extra “m” to the formula. The result is “April”.

=TEXT(A1*29,”mmmm”)

Using this formula will allow you to convert month number into a month name without going through a hassle of creating an array formula.
